John M. Muir, Jr., J.D. is an Illinois-licensed attorney and Settlement Consultant with Ringler, serving clients throughout Illinois and Eastern Missouri, including the Greater St. Louis area. He joined Ringler full-time in 2013 and works with attorneys, insurers, self-insured employers and injured individuals to develop effective settlement and funding strategies for complex personal injury and workers’ compensation matters.
John combines his legal background with extensive structured settlement experience to help clients evaluate both the legal and financial considerations involved in resolving a case. He has particular expertise in workers’ compensation and personal injury settlements, Medicare Set-Aside Arrangements, long-term medical funding and cases involving complex future financial needs.
Working closely with John W. Muir and the Bloomington/St. Louis team, John helps develop customized solutions when a traditional settlement approach may not fully address a client’s objectives. Their practice extends beyond conventional structured settlements to explore innovative approaches to long-term liability, future benefit obligations and other financial challenges facing insurers, businesses, attorneys and their clients.
John regularly attends mediations and settlement conferences, where his legal training and settlement experience allow him to work directly with the parties and their counsel in evaluating options and designing appropriate funding strategies.
He has provided judicial training for Commissioners, Arbitrators and Staff Attorneys of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission and has presented structured settlement continuing legal education and continuing education programs for attorneys and other industry professionals.
John earned his Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where he received the CALI Award in Workers’ Compensation. He also studied at the University of Illinois College of Law. Before and during his legal career, John worked with the McLean County and Peoria County Public Defender offices and has provided pro bono legal assistance to individuals in need.
